Surfing is Bali’s premier adventurous activity, and is globally renowned as such.

The best surf, suited to the seriously skilled surfer, is found at the beaches of Uluwatu, Padang-Padang, Suluban, Impossibles, Bingin, Balangan, Dreamland, Keramas, Bingin, Padang-Padang, and Pererenan.

For intermediate surfers, the offshore sites at Airport Left, Airport Right, and kuta Reef together with the beaches of Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Tanah Lot, Echo, Padang Galak, Segara, Berawa, Sindhu, Sanur, Kedungu, Tukud Balian and Muaru are the favourites, while Kuta, Legian, Seminyak and Batu Bulong are good places to learn if you are a novice.

The best time to surf is during the dry season from May to September, the peak time for the legendary west-facing beaches such as Uluwatu, Impossibles and Padanag-Padang, while the wet season favours the east facing beaches such as Sanur, Serangan, and Nusa Dua.

The Telaga Waja River, in Eastern Bali, is the island’s best rafting destination, offering a 16 kilometre ride through grade III and IV features and takes around two and a half hours to complete. Gentler and shorter rafting trips are also available on the Ayung River, with 11 kilometres of grade I-III or the Melangit River offering 8 kilometres of grade I-III.

Near Singaraja, the impressive Gitgit Waterfall is a great place to do some canyoning, combining the pleasures of rock climbing, cliff jumping, abseiling, river trekking and getting wet into one full on fun experience.

Bali Treetop Adventure Park provides a range of 72 treetop challenges for all ages, organised into several cable, net and swing circuits to suit agility and ability, the ‘black route’ being the most challenging.

In Papua and West Papua, the least visited and most remote provinces of Indonesia, you will find outstanding natural splendour, with huge marshlands, grassy meadows and powerful rivers carving gorges under dense primeval forests. Many of the peoples of the island have maintained their cultures virtually untouched by outside influences. Baliem Valley, stretching about 80 km by 20 km at about 1,600-1,700 m altitude in the Papuan highlands, is occupied by the Dani people.
