Arriving in Hanoi, explore the capital’s temples, lakes, street food highlights and vibrant Old Quarter. Enjoy an overnight cruise amidst the countless majestic islands of Halong Bay, with rugged limestone formations offering an awe-inspiring backdrop to beaches, caves and the full suite of services available on your boat. Finally, head south to the coastal city of Nha Trang for a world-class experience of diving and island-hopping, or simply take in the sun here at Vietnam’s premier beach destination.

Day 1: Arrival at Hanoi (GP)
Arriving at Noi Bai Airport in Hanoi, you’ll be met and driven to your hotel. You will have time to relax before heading out for a performance of traditional Water Puppetry (an art form unique to northern Vietnam, and a good, light-hearted introduction to its rural culture). You will spend the night in Hanoi.

Day 2: “Hanoi: Like a Local” (B, L, G)
Today, meet your guide and driver in the early morning at 6.00am and head towards Hoan Kiem Lake. It is a popular practice in Vietnam to awake very early and start the morning with some exercise. You’ll see several groups of people here practicing tai chi and aerobics. Immerse yourself in Vietnamese culture and join the locals in their morning routine.
Passing Ngoc Son Temple, you will visit a traditional coffee shop for a taste of Vietnam’s local iced coffee, ‘Ca phe sua da’. If you're up for it, you can also try the ‘egg coffee’. Continue from here to find some street food; we recommend the delicious ‘banh mi’, a baguette sandwich filled with a variety of fresh local ingredients. Later, go farther into Hanoi’s Old Quarter for glimpses of French architectural influence as seen in different Vietnamese buildings. The first stop will be the St. Joseph Cathedral, a French gothic building constructed in 1886. Next, visit the museum at Hoa Lo Prison, where Vietnamese, American and French prisoners were kept in different periods. Vietnam is justifiably well known for its food, and you will now stop by a ‘Bun Cha’ restaurant to try this Hanoi specialty.
After lunch, visit the Temple of Literature. Built in 1076, this temple was the site of Vietnam’s first university, established to educate Vietnam's royalty, mandarins and members of the elite. The day’s final sightseeing stop will be at the railway line cutting through urban Hanoi, sometimes running just meters away from the front doors of houses. Walking along a stretch of the railway with your guide offers some incredible photo opportunities. In true local style, the tour finishes at a Bia Hoi where you can enjoy some local draft beer. Note that innumerable street food specialties will be available throughout the day; to best appreciate them you may wish to skip your hotel breakfast before this tour.

Day 3: Hanoi/Ha Long (B, L, D, G)
Around 08:00 AM, you’ll leave for Ha Long Bay, one of the most spectacular UNESCO World Heritage Areas and the world’s largest marine limestone ‘karst’ landscape. There you’ll board the La Vela Classic and discover some of the treasures scattered across the Bay of the Descending Dragon during the afternoon: fascinating caves, pristine beaches, picturesque floating villages, and fantastic rock formations rising up out of emerald waters. You will visit Sung Sot Cave - hiking up and down 600 steps to view the magnificent limestone formations of the biggest and most marvellous cave in Halong Bay. You then have around 1 hour for kayaking to discover the bay at your own pace.
While on board, you can take advantage of the cruise’s facilities and services. Join your chef’s cooking demonstration and try your skills in the art of traditional Vietnamese cooking. Then, enjoy dinner with other passengers on the cruise.
For your Ha Long excursion, you'll board the La Vela Classic Cruise or La Vela Premium cruise. All cabins are air-conditioned and have windows overlooking the bay. All meals, usually based on fresh seafood, will be provided on board. Kayaking is available at a surcharge.

Day 4: Ha Long/Hanoi/Nha Trang (B, G)
You’ll wake in the fresh air of the bay and can enjoy a Tai Chi session on the large sundeck (beginners welcome!). Coffee & tea with homemade cookies & biscuits will be served on board. Spend the early morning relaxing while cruising Ha Long Bay, or visit Titop Island. Here you can swim and/or climb to the top for breath-taking views of the bay. Enjoy a buffet breakfast while cruising through the beauty of the bay, then return to the main dock around noon and leave for Noi Bai Airport in good time to catch your afternoon flight to Nha Trang.
On arrival in Nha Trang, your car and driver will be waiting to transfer you to your hotel for check-in. You will spend the night in Nha Trang.

Day 5 to Day 6: Nha Trang (B)
Your time will be your own in Nha Trang.
Nha Trang Bay offers a range of diving experiences and courses. There are several dive sites providing opportunities for wall diving, deep diving down to 50m and ‘swim-throughs’, in addition to more straightforward diving. Unfortunately, wreck diving is not possible. Most dive sites are within an hour by boat, and a 200HP outboard speedboat is available for executive diving and private charter.
There are around 400 species of hard and soft coral in Nha Trang Bay, making it one of the most diverse coral ecosystems in the world. Moray eels, manta rays, large stingrays and turtles are also to be seen, and there are several rare species to interest enthusiasts.
The typical visibility underwater is between ten and thirty metres and the water temperatures vary between 220 C and 300C. However, towards the end of October, the rainy season begins in the Nha Trang area, washing large amounts of sediment into the bay and turning the water into brown soup. The rain usually lasts until the end of December, but the water doesn’t clear until the latter part of January. Prospective divers who are thinking of visiting around the beginning or end of the rainy season in Nha Trang are welcome to contact us for an on-the-spot situation report.
‘Rainbow Divers’ is the only Five Star PADI Diving Centre in Vietnam, has first-class facilities, a highly qualified team of instructors and trainers, and an excellent safety record. For these reasons, Haivenu recommends them to its customers. Although we are happy to book diving and/or training packages in advance, we prefer customers to book and pay locally so that they can take account of the current conditions. The cost will be the same either way – we don’t ask for, or receive, commission for such services.
Alternative option: Sunset cocktail cruise on Nha Trang Bay (D, DP)
At 17.00 you will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to Nha Trang Port to board the Emperor Cruises Junk. After welcome drinks with the Cruise Experience Manager, you’ll be introduced to Nha Trang Bay, the locals, the food, the culture, the emperor, safety precautions, and Emperor Cruises. Begin your cruise while watching the spectacular landscape of Nha Trang Bay at sunset. You will have time to enjoy Nha Trang Bay at night with cocktails & wines on the sundeck, as you are entertained by musicians playing against the stunning backdrop of stars, the moon, and the city lights. Experience the gastronomic pleasure of a 5 course seafood dinner on board, while being serenaded and served by the Emperor Cruises team.
At 8.00pm, end your romantic dinner with drinks or cocktails at the lounge or on the sundeck before heading back to Nha Trang Port and returning to the mainland, where you will be transferred back to your hotel.
Alternative option: Full day private boat trip in Nha Trang Bay (B, L, G)
After breakfast, your guide will arrive and take you to visit the museum at the Institute of Oceanography, the largest such research body in Vietnam, to learn about on-going research projects, view their marine exhibitions and get a taste of the variety of Vietnam’s marine wildlife, before boarding a wooden boat for a full-day cruise to some of the small islands in the bay.
Your boat will stop for you to visit and take pictures at Tri Nguyen Aquarium on Mieu Island. You’ll then anchor off Mun Island, the first marine park of Vietnam, and do some snorkelling to discover the beauty on the ocean floor, or view coral reefs and tropical fish by glass-bottom basket boat (weather permitting), followed by a snack of wine and fruit served on board.
Lunch will be served on Mini Beach on Mieu Island, followed by free time for swimming, sunbathing or water sports (at your own expense).
In the middle of the afternoon, you’ll cruise to other side of Mieu Island to try out rowing a local basket boat and explore the life of fishermen at a local fishing village, before cruising back to the mainland and returning to your hotel. You’ll spend the night in Nha Trang.
You’ll cruise on a private boat with Vietnamese crew members eager to introduce the beauty of Nha Trang Bay. En route, wine and tropical fruits are available. Snorkelling gear is available on board. There is good coral around Mun Island, provided you swim away from the area where the boats tie up.

Day 7: Nha Trang Departure (B, DP)
You are free until your driver arrives to take you to the airport for your departure flight.
