The iconic Great Wall of China, a string of ancient, defensive fortifications along China’s historical northern border, is a hiker’s dream. Often tracing the ridgelines, the wall offers hikers dramatic views and an exhilarating physical challenge. This tour brings you to several of the most scenic sections of the wall, where you can move at your own pace across this showpiece of Chinese imperial history.

Tour programme:

Beijing/East Qing Tombs:

Day 1: On arrival at Beijing Airport you’ll be met and chauffeured to your hotel. 
Day 2: Drive to Jixian, Tianjin Province, explore the impressive East Qing tombs complex, continue to Huangyaguan Pass for your first hike on the Great Wall – 1.5 hrs. 

Great Wall Hiking:

Day 3: Hike from Huangyaguan along the Ming Great Wall, up ‘Heaven’s Ladder’ and along the North Qi Dynasty Wall to reach Qianganjian – 6 hrs.   
Day 4: After breakfast, drive to Simatai to hike this rugged section of the wall (3 to 4 hrs) and enjoy a local BBQ dinner in the evening. 
Day 5: After sunrise on the wall, transfer 1hr to Gubei Water Town where you can hike a section of the wall that remains partially unrestored – 3 hrs.
Day 6: Hike east from Gubei, a section with some steep ascents and spectacular ridge-top views, to reach Jinshaling – 4 to 5 hrs.  
Day 7: Transfer to Mutianyu, trekking one of the most rugged sections of the wall from Ox Horn Edge to Nine Eye Tower, reaching Jiankou after 13km – 5 hrs.
Day 8: Transfer to Badaling and spend 4 to 5 hrs exploring the different sections of Great Wall here, then continue on to Beijing.

Beijing departure:

Day 9: Tour Beijing; walk the iconic Tiananmen Square and explore the Forbidden City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the centre of China’s imperial power for centuries.
Day 10: This morning you are free until time for transfer to the airport to board your departing international flight.
